| PATENTS — Al C. Rich |
Two Patents were awarded originally to Albert Clark Rich for use on the ASN "Skylite" collector series of water heaters. These Patents can apply to other designs the company may develop in the future. Two more patents were developed in 1999 and 2000, one relating to the "Fireball 2001" solar water heater and the other to an advanced EPDM (rubber) absorber material. US Patent #4,930,492 encompasses 15 claims and was granted to Al C. Rich on June 5, 1990. The Patent is a key proprietary "floating valve" feature that allows the lines to drain on Polymer collectors. It allows for more than 18 improvements and innovations over traditional freeze protected systems. Second Patent # 5,404,867 on the collector's passive venting feature was allowed in Sept. 1994. This venting feature applies to the fact that for long life, there is a need to prevent high temperatures from occurring in Polymer collectors. As the trend continues toward lower cost Polymer solar collectors, this Patent will increase in importance as it is a simple and effective "Passive" method of venting the collectors. Third Patent # 5,960,790 on the "Fireball 2001" (now Skyline 2001) issued Oct. 5,1999 and applies to a light weight modular solar water heater whereby the entire solar collector of the system can be shipped in a single box by a low cost parcel service (like UPS). Fourth Patent # 6,024,086 on the MegaMat issued on Feb. 15th 2000 and applies to a flexible solar collector absorber system using extruded or formed rubber, or extruded or formed plastic in a large "wetted" area format. |
